What professional background can be expected from a manager in the aquatic facilities sector? How should cleaners, cashiers, and skilled workers be remunerated at market rates? What opportunities are available to career changers? Managers and operational staff in aquatic facilities often have many questions regarding job profiles, earning potential, and career advancement opportunities. This report addresses precisely these questions, offering background knowledge and guidance across approximately 50 pages. The aquatic facilities sector thus once again has access to current and comprehensive data on the remuneration and qualification of personnel within the aquatic facilities sector.
Excerpt from the Editorial:
In recent years, the remuneration structure within the aquatic facilities sector has undergone significant changes. The primary cause for this is not so much the COVID-19 crisis. Furthermore, the growing shortage of skilled labor is more of a continuous process, rather than the sole driver of this specific dynamic. Instead, special factors included the war in Ukraine as an inflation driver and the sharp increase in the minimum wage from October 2022. This has had a domino effect, impacting even those sectors that have historically paid above the minimum wage.
The first part of the report addresses the qualifications and remuneration of management personnel. For this purpose, numerous telephone interviews were conducted with managers in the German aquatic facilities sector. Naturally, our extensive experience from regularly placing management personnel also significantly contributes to this.
For the second part of the report, concerning the qualifications and remuneration of operational and administrative personnel, the data basis is derived from our extensive consulting practice and the collective bargaining developments within the individual affected industry segments. In our commentaries, we draw upon our 30 years of experience with 30 to 40 consulting projects annually in the aquatic facilities sector.
Thus, the aquatic facilities sector has access to current and comprehensive data on the qualifications and remuneration of industry personnel.”

What sounded theoretical to many five years ago is now an omnipresent reality: The aquatic facilities sector is struggling with a shortage of managers, skilled workers, and increasingly, even semi-skilled workers. Spontaneous reductions in operating hours, leading to temporary facility closures—unthinkable years ago—are no longer uncommon.
Potential solutions to the personnel crisis are presented by us in the concurrently reissued Altenburg Aquatic Facilities Report 2024.
This Altenburg Report: Remuneration and Qualification in the Aquatic Facilities Sector aims to provide an overview of the current situation in 2024.
It also aims to explain the industry, its job profiles, and career opportunities to career changers and new entrants, thereby making it more appealing.
It will be necessary to increasingly attract career changers to the aquatic facilities sector to overcome these challenges.
